Othmar Biegler, Zierfandler Badener Weg
The relationship with the Biegler winery goes back 35 years, when Christian Malnig picked grapes there as a teenager. The Biegler winery cultivates 8 hectares on the East and South-East facing slopes of the Anninger in Gumpoldskirchen, ideal for Riesling, the indigenous grape varieties Rotgipfler and Zierfandler and ideal conditions for stunning sweet wines. Othmar’s motto is all about strict quality in the vineyard as the base for excellent wines. Pre-passes through the vineyard to de-select grapes, handpicking and sustainable practices like returning the pomace to the vineyard and vegan wine making are only some examples for Biegler’s uncompromising quest for quality.
A natural cross between Roter Veltliner and an unknown variety, with only 61 hectars planted Zierfandler Badener Weg is even rarer than Rotgipfler from the same region. Colloquially also known as ‘Spätrot’ for its pink hue. Citrus, gooseberry and quince. Elegant, complex, fresh and long in its finish. Great with seafood, poultry and hard cheeses.
ABV: 13.5%
